It’s been almost six weeks since a baby girl from Kansas City, Missouri went missing from her home. Today, November 1, 2011, is her first birthday. Police still have no idea what has happened to baby Lisa Irwin or where she might be.
From the moment this story broke on the morning of October 4, something has felt wrong about it. There were so few clear details from the family, one has to wonder if they know more than they are letting on.
Among the disturbing and fishy things about this case, the mother Deborah Bradley, originally reported that she last saw her daughter around 10:30 pm Oct. 3. Not until days later did she admit that she had actually been drunk from the 6-10 glasses of wine she had the night of her daughter's disappearance. She fessed up that she truly hadn't seen her since 6:40 pm when she put her to bed. The father, Jeremy Irwin, also worked late that night, not coming home until 4 am, which was unusual for him. He came home to find the house lights on, the door unlocked, a window evidently tampered with, three cell phones gone from the home, and the baby apparently kidnapped. He then ran next door to the neighbor's house, Samantha Brando, to ask her if she knew where his daughter was. Why would he ask her?
Samantha Brando had been drinking on the front porch with Bradley that night. It is reported that she may have stayed at the Bradley-Irwin residence as long as an hour after Bradley went inside and passed out, chatting with another neighbor. She claims she saw nothing unusual. Shortly after Brando went home, a mysterious phone call was made from Bradley's phone around 11:57 pm. Bradley claims that this could not be true, since her cell phone was out of service. Is she lying? How could she not know that her own cell phone was capable of making calls??
The phone call was made to Megan Wright, who stays at a house about one mile away from Bradley's with six or seven other roommates. She says that she did not take the call and does not know Bradley or Irwin. She also said that one of her roommates probably answered her phone, because they share phones. Everyone who lives with Wright has denied that cell phones are shared. Why would Wright say this?
Perhaps Megan Wright isn't a completely reliable or honest source, based on the company she keeps. Her ex boyfriend named Jersey is a vagabond handy man who trolls the neighborhoods looking for work. Jersey has a criminal record for breaking and entering and was extensively interviewed by police. Police don't believe he was involved, but the case gets stranger by the day.
The kidnapping idea has been fueled by reports of a man seen carrying a nearly naked baby at two different times that evening - once around midnight by a couple, and then sometime around 4 am by a man on a motorcycle. The evening of Oct 3-4 was pretty cold - in the 40's. Why would someone be walking around in the dark with a nearly naked baby? This along with a man caught on gas station surveillance footage exiting the woods in the vicinity of baby Lisa's home has people wondering what to make of the events of that evening.
Police have searched everywhere and extensively interviewed all those who could possibly be involved, including the two young half brothers of baby Lisa. A cadaver dog has even searched for a dead body, turning up a positive i.d. for the scent of a body on the bedroom floor of Bradley and Irwin, though it led to nothing new. A PI has also been hired, along with a friend of the family putting up a large cash reward. Through all of this, nothing has turned up any clues as to what has become of baby Lisa.
Will this baby be found? More importantly, will she be found alive?
